D3/4 Grill Zermatt Silver, Finished.

I can't make my mind up whether to go for Zermatt on the D3 section or leave it as it is, in a mid grey colour which closely matches the arches and corner sections of front bumper? Whistle

If you want to put a black vinyl strip on the raised center section of the bonnet, then I think it'll look ok like it is....

If you don't though Whistle , then I would definitely paint it Zermatt Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

How's this? Nothing more to it really, just a matter of trimming all the existing veins off except the very bottom one. Trim the sides away till they are flush and the same at the top, trim it up till you get to the bottom of the rolled edge.

I would say, that the most difficult and time consuming part was cutting the four slots in the bottom, as the two outers are longer cuts that the two centers. These were done a couple of times over, taking a little away at a time until the D4 veins sat out flush to the D3 section.

All the cuts were sanded with a DA palm sander with 180 paper to level the cuts out.

The slots were done with the smallest and course sanding drum on the Dremmel.

Anything else, feel free to ask away. Thumbs Up

That is amazing -- more pics & info please

When the bonnet (hood as we say in US) is closed, can you tell the difference? And how did you secure the D4 silver honeycomb-ish center section? Adhesive?

Would love to see pics of the back of it and how you constructed it. I am guessing you used a D4 stocker grill. Can you confirm? I have heard of others taking FL2 grilles, but I havent liked the results.

This looks factory and brilliant ! Congrats! (and by the way, yes, definitely paint it Zermatt)

I'm not quite following your first question, about can you tell the difference when the hood is closed?

I haven't secured the center section as yet, waiting until i paint the D3 section the i was going to bond it in with a Polyurethene adhesive that they use in the bodyshops. Most know it as either Sikoflex or Tiger Seal, but these are more brand names.

To tell the truth, i don't know that you would actually need to bond the D4 section, as it sits in place very snugly and is already a tight fit, due to being held in place from the metal work that sits behind the grill.

Yes, center section is from a D4 grill, which we seem to be able to buy over here on its own without the frame section. As for the rear, there isn't actually anything at the rear of it, but i'll take a photo to show you. Thumbs Up

My intension's are, were to run a heavy bead of bonding along the top of the inside of the grill and bond onto the individual feet at the lower section. This shoul dbe more than suffice to hold it in place.

I will also fir the grill to the car, whilst the boding cures overnight, as this will hold the D4 section in against the D3 section tighter making for a closer fit at the front.

Thanks & Do you have LR Part # for the D4 center section

Perfect, thanks for that photo... helps alot.

Do you have the LR Part # for the center section of the D4 grill ? That would help greatly, it's not listed on any parts databases/sites I can find (and searching didnt turn it up).

I misspoke in my earlier post... I meant, "can you tell the difference when the hood is open"... but I can tell from the pic, you haven't had to cut the top of the grill (the part that is covered up when the hood is closed). So, all set, ? answered.

Sorry, i don't have the part number for the D4 section, as it was sourced on here through Slimer (Moderator). But, if you send a PM to Nick, The Large One on here, he will or should be able to tell you the part No, as he is a LR parts manager. Thumbs Up
